We are very excited to host a treasure-filled event this December, supported by a team of volunteers from NHS South, Central and West (SCW).
On Wednesday 4 December, eight NHS employees from SCW’s communications and engagement team will join Emmaus Bristol for a group volunteering day, but with a twist – while they help distribute leaflets for our charity, they will also be hiding items around the city for people to take part in a pre-loved treasure hunt.
How will the treasure hunt work?
The NHS team will hide 20 small, green, pre-loved items around the city, within the vicinity of our shops in Bedminster and Stokes Croft. Anyone who finds one of these hidden pre-loved treasures and returns it to an Emmaus Bristol shop by 4pm on Saturday 7 December will receive 25% off their next purchase (up to £10 off).
Treasure hunters will have 48 hours to find the items – from 3pm on Wednesday 4 December to 3pm on Friday 6 December. Any remaining items not found by the deadline will be retrieved by Emmaus Bristol that day. Here is an example of what the items will look like:
Charlie Keenan, Social Enterprise Manager at Emmaus Bristol, said:
“We’re excited to offer a fun and creative way for people to get involved with Emmaus Bristol, both as volunteers and shoppers. Not only will our pre-loved treasure hunt help raise awareness of our work, but it’s also a fantastic way to showcase the amazing pre-loved items we stock. We’re so grateful to the NHS team for bringing their energy and ideas to this project and volunteering their time to support us.”
The NHS volunteers will take over our social media accounts on Wednesday 4 December, sharing clues on Instagram and Facebook to help treasure hunters locate the items.
Jess Bishop, communications and engagement manager at NHS South, Central and West said:
“We can’t wait to get out there and start hiding these little green treasures near the Bedminster and Stokes Croft Emmaus shops. Our ‘day jobs’ involve supporting different NHS organisations and teams to improve systems and services – so we’re really looking forward to getting out and about and chatting to people in the community. Emmaus does outstanding work in Bristol and beyond, so we’re honoured to be given the chance to act as their ambassadors – on the street and on social media. Watch those spaces!”
The event aims to highlight our mission to provide a home, work experience, training, and tailored support to individuals who have experienced homelessness. By shopping second-hand with us, customers not only support this vital work but also promote sustainable living. Each hidden item in the pre-loved treasure hunt will feature a label explaining the positive impact of shopping second-hand at Emmaus Bristol, along with instructions on how to return the item to claim the discount.
Our charity shops offer a wide variety of pre-loved items, including furniture, clothing, bric-a-brac, electrical goods, and more, with something to suit all tastes, budgets, and needs – and plenty of choice to make the most of the discount.
For more information and to join the treasure hunt, follow Emmaus Bristol on Instagram and Facebook, where clues will be shared throughout the day on Wednesday 3 December. Happy treasure hunting!
